Clinton Norman Tinkler, 69, passed on to his heavenly life on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at his home, while surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 15th at the First Christian Church with Richard Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 at Heartland Funeral Home.
Norman was born in Pecos, Texas on May 31,1953, to Harvey and Stella Tinkler. He graduated from Pecos High School in 1971. After high school he moved to Brownwood to attend Howard Payne University, pursuing a BA degree in business while playing basketball for three years. He graduated from HPU in 1975. While attending Howard Payne he worked at Citizens National Bank which started his nearly 50-year banking career. After graduating he worked at Pecos State Bank in Fort Stockton, TexasBank, Weatherford (formerly Merchants 8t Farmers State Bank) where he became President and CEO at the age of 30 and then moved back to Brownwood in 1989 to be President and CEO of TexasBank Brownwood where he retired in 2010. In 2005, Norman combined his passion for golf with his commitment to charity by initiating the TexasBank Golf Classic. From 2005 to 2009, the Golf Classic raised over $300,000 for local charities. The last several years he served on the board and loan committee at F & M Bank until he passed.
On August 13,1988, he married Diane Tinkler and welcomed her sons Joshua and Jeremy who he raised and loved as his own and were his pride and joy. They moved to Brownwood in 1989.
Upon retirement Norman filled his time regularly playing golf, traveling, and spending time with his wife, sons, daughters-ln-law and granddaughters. Although he enjoyed playing golf with many friends, you would see him most often on the golf course with his beloved wife, who enjoyed playing alongside him, which greatly thrilled him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Diane Tinkler; sons, Joshua Dee Alcorn and wife, Lainey and Jeremy Ely Alcorn and wife, Ashleigh. “TPops” to granddaughters, Landyn Grace Alcorn and Asher Ely Alcorn; mother, Stella Tinkler; cousin (brother by choice), Otto Sonnenberg and wife, Georganna; brothers & sisters-in-law, Linda and Mike Gilley, Vicky and Kent Palmer and Mark and Nancy Beaty; and numerous aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of friends.
He is predeceased by his father, Harvey Tinkler, in-laws, Bedford and Patsy Beaty, brothers and sister-in-Law, Greg Deaver, Buddy and Cathy Newsome.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Tammi Cox, Dr. Altstatt, Dr. Hirsch and all of their staff along with the Walker Cancer Center for the wonderful care they gave him. And a special thanks to the nurses and staff from Solaris Hospice, who were his “angels”, for their friendship, caring services and always making him feel like he was their favorite.
In lieu of flowers the family requests the donations be made to the Norman and Diane Tinkler Scholarship Fund at Howard Payne University, Latch Key or a charity of your choice.
