Santos Z. Martinez, age 89, of San Angelo, Texas passed away Friday, August 12, 2022 in San Angelo.

Santos was born December 28, 1934 in Melvin, Texas to Rosalio S. Martinez and Rita (Zapata) Martinez.  She grew up in Melvin.  In her early 20’s, Santos and her sister Margarita moved to Dallas.  Santos worked in the school cafeteria for the Dallas I.S.D. for many years and retired on May 21, 1997.

In 1999 they moved to Brownwood, where they lived until moving to San Angelo in 2018.  She was a very caring and religious woman.  She served as a Eucharistic minister for several years.  She enjoyed traveling, especially to Isreal.  She also enjoyed crossword searches, bingo and dinners with her family after mass.  She loved to spend time with her family and always looked out for them.  She was a member of the Catholic Church in San Angelo.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Santos Martinez will be held at 10:00am Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brady with Father Terry Brenon officiating.  Interment will follow at the Melvin Cemetery in Melvin.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm with the Holy Rosary being recited at 7:00pm  at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels.  Friends may view and/or sign Santos Martinez’s online memorial guest book at www.leatherwoodmemorialchapels.com.

Santos is survived by her sisters Margarita Martinez of San Angelo, Texas and Ernestina “Tina” Bonilla of California; numerous nieces and nephews including Rita Martinez and Alpina Martinez of San Angleo, Texas and great-nephews Kobi Catron, Kenneth Catron, Jr., Hayden Martinez and Jaythen Martinez.  She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers and 1 sister.  The family of Santos Martinez would like to thank St. Gabriel’s Hospice and Palliative Care for their excellent care.
