Brown County native Sandra Jean Spellman Camp, age 86, died July 26, 2022, at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple with family members and a chaplain at her bedside.
Camp was a 1954 Brownwood High School graduate and a proud Texas Tech University graduate in 1958. Camp was a longtime member of Union Presbyterian Church in Brownwood and lived north of Brownwood.
Camp is survived by her daughter Kristene Hodges, a registered nurse and Air Force veteran now living in Rhode Island. She was a devoted grandmother to Jasia Correa of Cypress, Texas, and three great-grandchildren, Chloe, Anya and Ellie.
Camp was preceded in death by her parents Lester and Juanita Spellman of Brown County and her husband of more than 50 years, Marshall Camp, also from Brown County.
Through her lifetime, she lived and worked in Amarillo, Louisiana and California in business settings and as a real estate professional before returning to Brown County in the 1980s. Camp volunteered for several local organizations ranging from serving as an election judge to coordinator for the after-school Latch Key Program. She was a lifelong animal lover owning many cats, horses and dogs.
Camp died following serious injuries from a recent car accident.
Her family is extremely appreciative of her supportive and loving church family.
Her family is planning a memorial service at a later date at Union Presbyterian Church in Brownwood with specific information available through the church.
