Verona Sephus Garner, 96, of Brady, Texas passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Verona was born April 7, 1926 in Brady and was the third child of 13 born to Ruben and Anna Bertha (Wellington) Peterson. She graduated from Dunbar School in Brady. She was a Licensed Cosmotologist and owned her own beauty shop for several years. She married Ernest Sephus on February 29, 1948. She was the food service manager at the Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital for several years, worked at Brady National Bank and Walmart for several years. She married Paul Garner on August 11, 1984. Verona was very active in the community. She was a poll worker, volunteer for voter registration, a member of the Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxillary and the Chore Girls. She served on the Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital Board of Directors for a decade, the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association. She was a lifelong Brady resident, named the 1992 Brady/McCulloch County Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award and given the Key to the City. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Brady.
Funeral services for Verona Sephus Garner will be held at 11:00am Saturday, July 23, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church in Brady with Pastor Raymond Beachum officiating and Pastor Bun Jackson assisting. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Brady.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels in Brady.

Pallbearers will be Troy Sephus, Sr., Devin Sephus, Ray Beachum, Tavian Grose, Tahreon Adams, Colby Storms, DaJauan Farris and Ian Peterson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Samuel Peterson, Carl Peterson, Willie Lott, Larry Lott, Gary Peterson, Michael Peterson and Cedrick Sephus.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children William Sephus (Linda) and Karen Beachum (Raymond, Sr.) of Clovis, NM; her brothers Samuel Peterson (Nell) 0f Beaumont, TX, and Carl Peterson (Grace) of El Paso, TX; her grandchildren Troy Sephus (Lori) of Round Rock, TX, Kelah Thomas (Willie) of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Meka Matthews (Patrick) of Katy, TX, Devin Sephus of Avondale, AZ, Cedrick Sephus of Brady, TX, Kanisha Hundley (Aaron) of Lubbock, TX, Natasha Beachum (LaQuitrel Bruce) of Las Cruces, NM, Raymond Beachum, II (Karla) of Clovis, NM; and her great-grandchildren NyShae Perkins, MyNeka Sephus, Troy Sephus, Jr., Brianna Perkins, Alyssa Perkins, Tavian Grose, Dominique “D.J.” Matthews, Christopher Thomas, Tahreon Adams, Nyra Sephus, Kimani Sephus, Anaya Sephus, Lydia Hundley, Savannah Hundley, Titus Hundley, Madalynn Beachum, Naevia Beachum and Reigna Beachum. Verona also leaves behind a huge host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.
Verona was preceded in death by her loving husband of 33 years, Earnest Sephus; her second husband of 24 years, Paul Garner; son, Robert Sephus; her parents Ruben and Anna Bertha Peterson; her sisters Ruby Ann Burnett, Gracie Lee Williams and Amie Dell Lott; her brothers Ruben “Cat” Peterson, Robert Peterson, Sherman Peterson, and John “Peter” Peterson; sisters-in-law Mary Ruth Peterson, Mary Jo Peterson, and Jackie Peterson; and brothers-in-law Pete Lott and Alfred Williams.
