Benny Callaway, 87, of Cross Plains

A beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away on July 8, surrounded by his family and friends. Benny Callaway was 87 years old. Benny was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed. Those privileged to know him were treated to lots of love and laughter.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 12 at 11:00 AM at Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel in Cross Plains Texas with Charles Cheshire officiating. Burial will follow after the service at Cross Plains Memorial Park in Cross Plains, Texas.

The family will have a time of visitation on Monday, July 11 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel in Cross Plains, Texas.

Benny was born on December 2, 1934 in Eastland County, Texas to the late Henry Callaway and Lucile Martian-Callaway. He married Gaynelle Ramsey on November 7, 1986 at Brownwood Lake, Texas. Benny served in the United States Army. He was a DPS Trooper for the state of Texas for 18 years. He took care of all the janitorial need for the local bank for 45 years. Benny wore many hats, he was a Plumber, Gardner and had several critters that he took care of. Benny will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him, especially his steer, Hombre. Benny was a longstanding member of the Church of Christ in Cross Plains, Texas.

Benny was preceded by his daughter, Valarie Callaway; parents, Henry Callaway and Lucile Martian-Callaway; sister, Doris Ann McBride.

Benny is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Gaynelle Callaway of Cross Plains, Texas; sons, Marty Callaway and his wife, Glenda of Burkett, Texas; Rocky Callaway and his wife, Karen of Franklin, Texas; grandchildren, Brooke Callaway of Abilene, Texas; Kenny Callaway of Baird, Texas; Nikki Harwell of Hamby, Texas; Misty Callaway of Clyde, Texas; Jay Callaway of Burkett, Texas; Lance Vasquez of Hertfort England; Ethan Schrimshire of Granbury, Texas; 11 great grandchildren; step-daughters, Debra Horton and children of Killeen, Texas; Karen Morales and children of Makala, Texas; brother, Weaver Callaway of Comanche, Texas.
