Rudy G. Bastardo, Sr., age 82, of Brownwood, passed away at his home Wednesday morning, April 20, 2022.
He was born September 16, 1939, in Brownwood, the son of Fermin and Frances Gutierrez Bastardo. As a young boy, he began working which led to a good working ethic. He was known as a hard worker and was very knowledgeable about many things. He was married to Blasa “Kathy” Bastardo. He worked for Santa Fe Railroad and also did carpenter work and enjoyed working on cars as a mechanic. He loved to work in his garden and his favorite thing was being with his family. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by three daughters, Irma Acuna and husband Marcelino, Stella Del Rio and Ernesto Aguilez, and Velma Hernandez, two sons, Jonathan A. Hernandez and Rudy Bastardo, Jr. His grandchildren include Cynthia Rojas, Brandon Costilla, Adriana Rodriquez, Shelby Rodriquez, Alexis Villegas as well as seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Kathy Bastardo, his parents, and three brothers, Fred Bastardo, Victor Bastardo, and Gus Bastardo.
Funeral mass will be held at 10 am on Friday, April 22, at St. Mary’s Queen of Peace Catholic Church with burial to follow in Greenleaf Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 – 8 pm on Thursday evening at Heritage Funeral Home, Davis-Morris Chapel with rosary recited at 7 PM.
