BROWNWOOD – According to Brown County Emergency Manager Darrell Johnston, the Red Cross is opening a shelter for evacuees from the fires at the First United Methodist Church in Brownwood, located at 2500 11th Street.  Anyone affected by the fire evacuations that need a place to stay can go there.  Concerning the fire at Blanket, Johnston said firefighters are making some progress on the fire but the wind is still strong and causing issues.  There is still a long way to go.

We’ve also been told Rocky Creek Baptist Church on Highway 279 northwest of Brownwood is open to evacuees affected by the fires.
