Billy Paul Griffin, age 87, of Coleman, died Sunday, March 13, 2022, at Coleman County Medical Center.

The family will host a visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel.

The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Kelly Crenshaw of New Beginnings Church in Brownwood, officiating.  Interment will be in the Coleman City Cemetery.  Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman.

Billy Paul Griffin was born on October 12, 1934, in Coleman County, Texas, to Willie Frank and Inez Griffin.  He graduated from Coleman High School then attended Texas A & M University where he studied aeronautical engineering and was in the Corps.  He worked in the oilfield as a crew hand, driller, tool pusher and later as a drilling consultant.  He helped put in Atlas missiles during the Cold War and he helped build the new wing on the hospital and the low rent houses in Coleman.  He ran a contract mail route for 41 years from Coleman to Gouldbusk, retiring in 2014.  He was a charter member of Coleman Community Baptist Church and taught Sunday School.  He loved reading, talking about the oilfield, and talking about raising goats.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Buford Griffin, and his three sons, Bobby Wayne Griffin, Paul Lynn Griffin and Brett Dwayne Griffin.

He is survived by three children and their families, Bill Deen (Bullwhip) and Karen Griffin, Dana Yancy and Tracy and James Ryan; two brothers and a sister, Jesse Griffin, Kenneth Griffin and Nancy Blevins; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
