Lady Lions and Lions Win Soccer Games

GORDON WOOD STADIUM – The Brownwood Lady Lions defeated Mineral Wells 3-0 Thursday night at Gordon Wood Stadium. Senior Watts Jones scored all three goals for the Lady Lions (12-4-2, 6-2) lighting up the scoreboard 10:57 into the contest, with 11 seconds left in the opening half and again 4:54 after halftime to complete the hat trick. The Lady Lions head to District 4-4A champion Stephenville at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in their final game of the regular season. The Lady Lions are the District 4-4A runner-up.

The Brownwood Lions soccer team is also playoff bound as the second seed after a 2-1 victory against Mineral Wells Thursday night at Gordon Wood Stadium, the final home soccer game of the season. The Lions opened the scoring with 25:05 left in the opening half as Caleb Nelson scored on a penalty kick. Tied at 1 with 18:06 left, a free kick by Cameron Phipps from about 40 yards out was headed by Luke Moss to a waiting Noah Barron just a few yards in front of the goal, who scored to break the tie. The playoff-bound Lions (7-10-2, 4-4) wrap up the regular season at District 4-4A champion Stephenville at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
