Barbara Boyd Stewart

Barbara Boyd Stewart was born June 10, 1940 in Mills County to Raymond Boyd and Wilma Lancaster Boyd.  She moved from this world into heaven on February 25, 2022 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Funeral Services will be Monday, February 28th at 2pm in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel, visitation will be from 1 to 2 pm prior to the service.  Interment will follow at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

Barbara was raised in Northern Brown County and graduated from May High School in 1958.  She began working for General Telephone in San Angelo shortly after graduation and by 1961, she had moved to Brownwood where she continued working at GTE until her retirement in 1989.  She then purchased First Travel Service and operated that business for over 20 years.

Barbara was an active member of her community and was a longtime member of Early First Baptist Church.  She served on the Brown County Fair Association Board began in 1973 and continued each year until 2015 in many capacities on and off the board.  Other activities and organizations she had been involved in included the boards of Boys and Girls Club, Early EDC, Early Chamber, Brownwood Chamber and Woman’s Club.  She also served over 18 years on the Early ISD Board of Trustees and on the Early City Council.  Barbara was recognized as Girls Scouts of Central Texas Woman of Distinction for her community involvement.  Other than attending her grandchildren’s school activities, she enjoyed sewing and working in her yard.

Barbara is survived by daughter Tammy Barr and husband Mike of Coleman, TX. Their son and daughter-in-law Jonathan and Jessica Barr and their son Charlie of Dripping Springs; daughter Vannessa (Vann) Stewart of May, TX and her children, Beale-Madison, Vance-Cady and John-Stewart.

She was preceded in death by her father Raymond Boyd and mother Wilma Boyd.
