BROWNWOOD, Texas- The Howard Payne University men’s basketball team took down Hardin-Simmons University 75-60 Thursday evening.
The Yellow Jackets fell behind 15-7 early in the first quarter before going on a 9-0 run to tie the game.
The rest of the half was back and forth, with the Yellow Jackets trailing 35-34 at the break.
The Yellow Jackets fell behind seven points with 15 minutes left in the game before going on a 9-4 run to claim the 51-50 and never trailed again, claiming the 15 point victory over the Cowboys.
The Yellow Jackets shot 45.8% from the field (27-59) and 44.44% (7-19) from the three-point line.
Fredrick Watts led the Yellow Jackets with 20 points and 14 rebounds, followed by Miles Koehler with 14 points. Jaylan Ballou had four assists and four steals.
The Yellow Jackets improve to 4-11 overall and 3-7 in American Southwest Conference action. The Cowboys fall to 10-3 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
Howard Payne will play McMurry on Saturday, January 15th at 3:00 PM in the Brownwood Coliseum.
