BISD currently has a vacancy on the school board. Place 7 was represented by Tim Jacobs from 2009 to 2021. He recently resigned from the position and was presented a plaque of appreciation Monday night during the board meeting for his many years of service on the board. Dr. Joe Young made the presentation. (Shown in Photo)
One item discussed in a one hour Executive Session was how to fill the board vacancy. As explained by Michael Cloy, School Board President, those interested in the position should reach out to school officials.
“Place 7 is actually up for election this November so the board has some options. We could choose to go with that seat empty until that time. I don’t think that’s a good idea, neither does the rest of the board. The other option is that we could appoint someone to fill the position which is what we traditionally have done when a board member has either moved or resigned their place,” Cloy said.
Place 7 covers the southern and southeastern part of the City of Brownwood. A map of the school district places can be found by clicking HERE.
If you are interested in serving in Place 7, you can go to the school administration office at 2707 Southside Drive or you can e-mail school officials.
“You can e-mail me at michael.cloy@brownwoodisd.org or you can e-mail Dr. Young at joe.young@brownwoodisd.org indicating your interest in this position. The deadline for that will be January 28. We plan to invite those who are interested to our next board meeting which will be February 7th. We will have discussions with them in Executive Session and at the end of that time we plan to appoint someone that night, likely at the end of Executive Session,” Cloy concluded.
