Demo and Construction Projects Underway in Brownwood

The sound of a hydraulic jack hammer rang out Tuesday morning in downtown Brownwood as the concrete foundation of the old Ice House was being broken into pieces.  It is just one of several projects going on in  the general area of the Coliseum that will eventually lead to the new Brownwood Multipurpose Event Center.  This new structure will function as a stage for large events, small gatherings, and concerts. It can also serve as spill-over outdoor space for the larger event center.

Utility work has been underway for a few weeks in the Coliseum area and a contractor is working on a decorative star in the street at the corner of Baker and Greenleaf, similar to the star feature on Center Avenue. You can learn more about the event center by following THIS LINK to the City of Brownwood website.

A City of Brownwood operator is shown Tuesday morning, November 16, breaking up the concrete slab of the old ice house in downtown Brownwood, just south of the health department building.  This is some of the preliminary work leading up to the construction of the Multipurpose Event Center at the location.
