Brownwood Art Association celebrates First Thursday Oct. 7 with an exhibit that celebrates “the brain’s capacity to create.”

“Art from an Eclectic Mind” is an exclusive look at the work of local artist June Musick.

First Thursday is a regular event for the Art Association. The month-long exhibit opens with a reception Thursday, Oct. 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Art Center, 215 Fisk Av in Downtown Brownwood,  Admission is free and open to the public.

According to Musick, “My family’s gypsy lifestyle gave me both discouragement and opportunities, but nothing could stop me from becoming an artist. I took it as a personal challenge to go forth and learn all that I could. It may have kept me from obtaining any long-term formal schooling, but I would jump into books and take classes where ever the family landed, and tackle the arts headfirst to become an ‘artist/painter’.”

Musick teaches art across all water-soluble mediums, gives workshops and holds classes in her home studio. She gives demonstrations for area community functions and also for surrounding cities.

She is currently vice-president of Brownwood Art Association, and is member of Comanche Art Association, Graham Art Guild, West Texas Watercolor Society, and Urban Sketchers of Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Texas Tech University.

The BAA Art Center is located in historic Downtown Brownwood, at 215 Fisk Ave. Regular hours of operation are Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For additional information, call 325-641-2916.
