Joe Hale, age 61, of Coleman, died Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.

The family will host a visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 2, 2021, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 2021, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow in the Santa Anna Cemetery.  Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.

He was born to Lorene Hutchinson and Joe Hale on September 1,1959 in California. He was raised by Lorene and Lewis Whitmire in Texas.

He attended Clyde and Cross Plains schools, where he found his love of sports. He married Judy Jackson on December 12, 1983, in Abilene and they had four children together. He worked in masonry and welding all his life and really enjoyed seeing his work come together and pointing out to others the places he had worked on when passing by. If you knew Joe, even the slightest, you would know his love (above all else) for football and his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys.

He married Vickie Owens on February 17, 2012, and they resided in Coleman until his passing. They butted heads a lot, but there was not anyone else he would want by his side while watching football together, enjoying the holidays, visiting with all the family and grandkids, BBQing, or just making each other laugh.

He is preceded in death by his parents Lewis and Lorene Whitmire and great nephew, James York Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Vickie Hale of Coleman; children Steven Hale and wife Christy of Odessa, son Daniel Hale and wife Nicole of Wild Peach, daughter Melissa Hudgeons and husband Brady of Lake Jackson, daughter Crystal Hale (Casey) of Santa Anna; step son, Brandon and wife Minga Owens of Baird; grandsons Eli Herring, Eathan Hale, Garrett Hudgeons, Caleb Evans, Devin, Bronson and Michael Owens; granddaughters Lizzy Hale, KK Hudgeons, Madison Hale, Makenzie Hale, and Peyton Evans; brothers Gary Hale of Coleman, Bobby Hale of Santa Anna and a huge amount of extended family he loved.

Pallbearers will be Steven Hale, Gary Hale, Shannon Burfield, Russell Bennett, Johnathan Fleming and Eddie York. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Hale, Robby Hale and RB Wagley.
