Amelia was born in Lampasas, TX, the third of five daughters to Cresencio and Josefina Rodriguez.
The family moved to Brownwood when Amelia was two and she attended Brownwood schools.
Growing up, she loved going to the movies, dancing, and listening to music with her sisters and cousins.

December 29, 1956, she married Ramon R. Vasquez. Their union was blessed with two children, Richard and Kay. Amelia was always involved in PTA with her children and became a band Mother for the Mighty Maroon Marching Machine. She spent time supporting Richard and Kay in various high school sports and activities. She liked traveling and was lucky to see the West and East coasts and many states in between.

Amelia was a stay-at-home Mom for many years then worked retail in downtown Brownwood. She became a Teacher’s educational aide and held a paraprofessional certification, working for Brownwood ISD for over 20 years. She loved being part of the ‘Northwest Bunch’.

Amelia was also a member of Alter Society, Guadalupanos, the Eucharistic Ministry and served as a Sunday school teacher. St. Mary’s was a big part of her life and she cherished her church family.

In retirement, Amelia and Ramon spent time volunteering with various organizations in Brownwood. This couple helped fulfill the ministry of Meals On Wheels for many years, worked the Soup Kitchen and spent time with Keep Brownwood Beautiful. Their community was very important to them.

She never imagined having grandchildren would provide her with so much joy! Heidi, Kristen, and Halley filled their MeMe’s life with happiness, and she liked to celebrate them whenever she could. Her joy grew again with Baylen and Bristol, her great-grandchildren. Her girls were her everything.
