Howard Payne University head football coach Jason Bachtel announced today the addition of Kevin Bachtel and Stoney Patton as new offensive and defensive coordinators.

Kevin Bachtel comes to Howard Payne from Edgewood High School, where he was the head football coach for five seasons (2016-2021), compiling a record of 40-17 and a district championship in 2016.

Stoney Patton comes to Howard Payne by way of Athens High School, where he served as an offensive coordinator the past season.

Jason Bachtel on Coach Kevin Bachtel – “We are really excited about the additions of Coach Bachtel as he takes over the reins of the defense. With him being over that side of the ball, we have a guy that has a proven track record of having great defenses and a winning and attacking mentality.”

Before Edgewood, Bachtel spent three seasons (2013-2016) at Grand Saline High School as the assistant football coach and defensive coordinator. Bachtel was also the head powerlifting coach, and head girls track coach.

From 2000-2005, Bachtel was the Defensive line coach and special team coordinator at Wills Point High School and the defensive coordinator from 2006-2009.

Kevin is a 2000 graduate of Texas A&M Commerce.

Kevin is married to his wife Sara, and they have one daughter, Madlyn.

Jason Bachtel on Coach Patton – “Adding Coach Patton to our offensive staff is awesome. He is a guy that has been brought up in this system and is like-minded in all phases of our offense. He has also been in multiple winning programs and brings a ton of wealth to this staff and our program.”

Before Athens, Patton spent one season at Fairfield High School (2019-2020) as an offensive coordinator leading a high-powered rushing attack. He helped the Eagles to a 7-5 season.

Patton also spent one season as the offensive coordinator at Mildred High School. (2018-2019)

In 2017, Patton was the running backs coach at North Forney High School. The Falcons went 10-3 that season and were the Area Champions.

Patton spent two seasons (2015-2017) as a Secondary coach at Scurry-Rosser High School. In 2015 the Wildcats were Bi-District Qualifier.

From 2012-2014 Patton was the defensive backs and quarterbacks coach at Quinlan High School. In 2012 the panthers were district and bi-district champions.
