The following was posted to the Brown County Youth Fair Facebook page on Sunday at noon. Read carefully.
Due to inclement weather, the clothing turn in and appearance judging, which was scheduled for today, has been postponed. The Clothing Superintendent and committee has come up with the following changes to the way the contest will take place.
Garments will be checked in no later than 1 hour prior to the BCYF Fashion Show which is scheduled for 6:30 pm. This means all garments must be checked in with the appropriate superintendent for your division no later than 5:30 pm. At check in, you will be provided with your contestant number. These numbers must be pinned to the lower left of your garment between the hip and thigh so as to be visible by the judges when you are modeling.
The clothing and modeling judges will be doing the appearance judging portion during the runway show and will be provided photos from the show as reference when judging construction.
Construction judging will take place (in a closed setting – contestants NOT present) on Tuesday evening. This means that contestants will need to hang all garments neatly, with contestant numbers still in place, on the appropriate garment rack. All garments must be left after the fashion show for later construction judging. Any garments not left after the fashion show will be disqualified from the contest.
The modeling awards will be presented at the conclusion of the fashion show, just as in the past. Modeling winners will be required to turn in a thank you note for the plaque donors prior to leaving for the evening. The Queen’s Committee will still crown the Junior Miss and Princess winners during the fashion show as well. However, all Clothing placings, as well as Grand and Reserve Champion Awards will not be awarded until Thursday, January 14th, during the Home Economics Division Open House. All garments will be displayed in the Home Economics Building with the other home economics entries, and ribbons will be attached for viewing. All prize money will be distributed during prize pick up for the Home Economics Divisions. (See BCYF Schedule for specific times for viewing and picking up items). Thank you cards will be required for Grand and Reserve Champion Award Winners, so come prepared with thank you notes. You will be responsible for picking up all garments and designated prize money during the designated time on Thursday evening.
Normally during appearance judging, the contestants are asked a few questions related to their garments. We are having to change up our format due to the changes with the inclement weather. With this in mind, we are asking that each contestant briefly answer the following question(s) for the judges for each garment entry. This will be in addition to the mandatory fashion description for the runway modeling.
Each age division has a separate age appropriate question(s).
Please list your Name, Entry Number and Category with each question. These responses will be placed with your garment for construction judging. Keep your responses to 100 words or less per question.
Junior: What was your favorite thing about sewing this year, and what did you learn?
Intermediate: What was something you learned this year, and what, if anything, did you find difficult in sewing your project?
Senior: What are some specific techniques you used/learned or something new that you tried this year? Where do you plan to wear your garment?
Example:
Ginger Doe
Class 460 – Specialty Outfit – Junior Division
My favorite thing about sewing this year was learning to use a serger. It is so loud, but I like the way it makes my clothes look. I learned how to stitch on a curve and put in a side pocket. The side pocket was hard to get it to lay right when the garment was done. I also got a lot of practice with the seam ripper.
Please submit your fashion show descriptions and responses to the questions to Jessica Morgan. You may either email them to jessalene@gmail.com or text them to 325-217-4049. If you have technical issues or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to call clothing assistant superintendent Annalyn Deen (325-642-7817) or assistant superintendent Jessica Morgan (325-217-4049). All descriptions and questions are due by 6pm today, January 10th.
Also, if you have any entries that you did not complete and do not intend to enter, please let us know that as well so that we can plan accordingly.
