Bobbie L. Smith, age 95, of Coleman, died Thursday, December 03, 2020, at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.
A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman. Interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.
She was born Bobbie Leona McIlvain on October 9, 1925, in Rockwood, Coleman County, Texas, the only child of William T. McIlvain and Leona Boatright McIlvain Nixon. Shew grew up Coleman where she attended school and graduated from Coleman High School. During World War II, Bobbie and her mother moved to Fort Worth and worked in an ordnance plant as part of the war effort. They returned to Coleman and Bobbie was employed by Coca-Cola Bottling for 12 years. She became a Certified Nurses Aide (CNA) and worked at Overall-Morris Memorial Hospital which became Coleman County Medical Center. She retired from CCMC. She worked as a greeter and driver at Stevens Funeral Home for about 25 years, well into her 80’s. Bobbie was part of the Greatest Generation who grew up in hard times, lived through a world war and learned how to make do and thrive. Although Bobbie has outlived many of her friends and family, she was cherished by her family. Every year she looked forward to attending her “cousin’s reunion.” She was a member of Concho Baptist Church.
She is survived by her cousins, Ken Smith, Bill Conner and wife Nancy, Mary Lou Jenkins, Jack Boatright, Bruce Estes, Phillip Boatright, and Joe Boatright.
Memorials are suggested in memory of Bobbie to the Coleman Senior Citizen Center, 916 S. Concho, Coleman, Texas 76834.
