A local man was airlifted from the site of the former ice house complex on Lee Street in Brownwood Wednesday afternoon after the roof of the building he was helping tear down collapsed, according to witnesses on the scene.
The Brownwood Fire Department, Brownwood Police Department and a Lifeguard EMS ambulance responded to the scene shortly after 1 p.m. They were still at the scene as of 2:30 pm. An Air Evac helicopter left the scene shortly before 2:30.
The buildings are being torn down to make way for the city’s new events center.
