The football season for the Early Longhorns, Brookesmith Mustangs and Goldthwaite Eagles came to a close Thursday night.

For Early, the number 1 team in the state, Brock, was too powerful and coasted to a 42-7 victory in a game played at Tarleton Memorial Stadium in Stephenville.  The Longhorns end the year at 5-6.  Next up for Brock is either District 1 runner-up Denver City (6-4) or District 2 third seed Littlefield (3-6).

In a game played in Zephyr, Brookesmith (7-3) mustered just 171 yards of total offense in a losing effort to Cherokee, 80-30.  Cherokee advances to face District 13 champion Calvert (8-2) – a 52-0 winner over District 14 runner-up Dime Box (5-3) Thursday night – in the Class A Division II Region IV semifinals next week.

In a game played at Gordon Wood Stadium in Brownwood, the Hawley Bearcats defeated the Goldthwaite Eagles 34-20.  Hawley (9-3) advanced to the area round of the playoffs for the eighth consecutive season. The Bearcats, the champion and No. 1 seed from District 3-2A DI, will face Sundown, a 34-6 winner over Farwell on Thursday, in next week’s area round.
