Gwen Maas of Brownwood, Texas, age 89, left this life to be with our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ on Monday, October 5, 2020 in Brownwood.
Gwen was born April 22, 1931 in Sparta, Wisconsin to William and Anna Hoffman. She married Ted Maas, Jr. on September 2, 1950 in Warrens, Wisconsin. Ted and Gwen began their journey with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord in Denver, Colorado which led into the pastorate in Oklahoma, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and New Mexico. Gwen was always faithful to serve the Lord beside her husband, within her family, her church, and community. She taught God’s Word within her home, through Sunday School and church, missions work within the Minnesota/Wisconsin Baptist Fellowship, and witnessing opportunities. She was a member of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church in Brownwood but also worshiped with the family of God at Rocky Creek Baptist Church also of Brownwood. Gwen was a strong witness for Christ, her greatest desire being that everyone she knew would know for certain that they have eternal life through Jesus Christ and would be with her in heaven one day.
Gwen has been reunited with her loved ones in heaven. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Ted Maas, Jr, her precious grandson Jason Maas, her parents, stepmother Teresa Hoffman, sister Marguerite Richards, a half-sister Laurie Hoffman, and three stepsisters Myrtle Shields, Marionne McDaniels, and Betty Jane Robinson.
She is survived by her sister Barbara Breen and husband Mark of Holdrege, Nebraska, a stepsister Virginia Markin of Tomah, Wisconsin. She is also survived by her children, Sharyl McCarthick and husband Mack of Milburn, Oklahoma; Scott Maas and wife Teresa of West Salem, Wisconsin; Sandy Von Riedel and husband Bruce or Cornucopia, Wisconsin, Richard Maas and wife Donna of Winston Salem, North Carolina, and Gary Maas of Brownwood, Texas. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
