Improvements were being made to Ledinicky Park, located on Commerce Drive in Brownwood between the Pecan Bayou and the new Chick-fil-A location, and more upgrades are coming at other parks around town.

“The BMDD and City of Brownwood have added a new wrought iron fence, facilitated new Oncor lighting, a new playset is current being installed, and we are adding 10 new picnic tables which should be at the site in the next couple of weeks,” Brownwood Municipal Development Director Ray Tipton said of the Lednicky Park upgrades.

Brownwood Parks and Recreation Department David Withers said of the new Lednicky Park playground equipment, “It’s a playground set up for mainly 2 to 5 year olds. It’s going to be about a 32 feet by 34 feet play area that we’re installing over there. We’ll have wood chips around the playground area for cushion.”

Withers added that the two picnic tables currently at Lednicky Park will be sandblasted and repainted, which will result in a dozen tables with the additional of the 10 that are coming soon.

Trigg Park, next to Northwest Elementary, will be receiving similar playground equipment for children ages 5-12 that will measure 36 feet by 31 feet. Withers also stated the merry go-round and one of the slides formerly at Riverside Park will be moved to Trigg Park in the future.

Also, a wheelchair-accessible swing was donated to the city, according to Withers, which is now at Allcorn Park, located at the intersection 4th Street and Indian Creek Drive.

“We’ll be pouring the slab for that sometime next week, but we already have the piece of playground equipment already there at Allcorn Park,” Withers said.
