Barbara McHorse, 88 of Brownwood

mchorse-2

Barbara McHorse, age 88, of Brownwood went to her Heavenly home on Friday, August 28, 2020.

A lifetime resident of Brownwood, she was born on March 10, 1932, to Milton and Lennie Stuteville.  She graduated from Brownwood High School in 1949, where she was a Majorette for the Brownwood Lion Mighty Maroon Marching Band. Barbara married Steve McHorse on June 24, 1951, in Brownwood.  She was a longtime member of Central United Methodist Church.  Anyone that knew her will always remember her strength, love, beauty, and faith.

Barbara was affectionately known as Mom or Memaw by her family and extended family as well.  She was a loving homemaker but will tell you her favorite places she worked were at Ernest Morris Menswear, Bowie Theater, BHS, and for her “boyfriend,” Brandon Blaylock. She never met a stranger and could talk to anyone at any time, especially at the grocery store or Dairy Queen getting the famous “Barbara Burger.”

Barbara loved to bring joy to those around her by cooking a great treat or sewing a project that caught her eye.  She was a master seamstress shown by the countless dance costumes she sewed for Judy Moore School of Dance and KG Dance Studio. She enjoyed playing golf and was especially proud of her two “hole in one’s.”  She was an avid Brownwood Lion fan and never missed a game for many years.  Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.  Memaw created many special memories for them through the years by making quilts, pillows, books, and various keepsakes.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Karey Gail Morelock and husband Dan of Brownwood; son, Randy McHorse and wife Lori of Brownwood; 6 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Brenda Perkins of Brownwood; and brother, Larry Don Stuteville of Abilene. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve McHorse; parents, Milton and Lennie Stuteville; a grandson, Kyle McHorse; and brother-in-law, Larry Perkins.

Private Family Graveside Services for Barbara will be held at Eastlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Central United Methodist Church (1501 2nd St. Brownwood, Texas 76801).

Online condolences for the family are welcome at www.blaylockfuneralhome.com.
