The Brownwood City Council on Tuesday morning, August 11, approved spending up to $34,000 for renovations of Adams Street Community Center.

“We’ve been talking about Adams Street Community Center for a couple of years now.  At first, we thought that we were going to be doing some foundation repair because of some sinking in the foundation at various points in the building, creating some cracking as well as some damage to the exterior,” said City Manager Emily Crawford.  After further review, the Council decided to put the funds toward aesthetic improvements, updating the interior and making repairs to the exterior but not doing the foundation.

“Today we came back to the Council with roughly the same amount of dollars that we would have done with foundation and, instead, applying that to some new flooring and painting throughout,” Crawford said.

The renovations are scheduled to begin in January.

In other business from City Council, they approved Grider Paving, LLC for the reconstruction of River Oaks Drive from Southgate to FM 2126.  The bid amount was $137,141.  The other sealed bid was from Martin Earthworks for $170,976.

The Council also approved, on first reading, an Ordinance changing the City Marshal position to be under the direction of the Police Department.
