Zephyr Getting Back to Normal After Tornado

There was a normal large crowd gathered Thursday morning for breakfast or buying gas and groceries at Diamond R Store and Cafe in Zephyr.  Co-owner, Cody Rogers, told KOXE/KBWD News Director Randy Turner that Oncor Energy worked tirelessly Wednesday to restore electricity to the community hit by what the National Weather Service described as a weak tornado.  The lights came back on late Wednesday night.  There was still evidence of  damage around town such as at the old Petty Building which had it’s brick facade blown off leaving a large hole in the south end of the building and a big pile of brick resting next to the street.  Residents of Zephyr worked Wednesday to clean up as much debris as possible.  The Salvation Army was also in town helping as needed.

Joe Burkett, Jr., the young man whose home was destroyed with him in it, was not injured.  Rogers said there is a special bank account set up at Mills County State Bank for anyone who would like to help Burkett financially.  He is employed at Diamond R.
