Despite rain throughout much of the day, the two-day District 6-4A tennis tournament eventually reached its conclusion Thursday at Brownwood High School, and Lady Lions Ashlyn Bundick and Lanie Johnson qualified for regionals in girls doubles.
The Lady Lion duo advanced to the district championship match before falling to a tandem from Glen Rose. The 6-4A runners-up will next compete at the Region I-4A tournament at Texas Tech’s McLeod Tennis Center on May 9-10.
Also Thursday, the Lions doubles team of Wesley Goodrich and Trine Baugh placed third after defeating a pair from Mineral Wells 7-5, 6-7 (4), 6-2.
Eric Smith was also in action for Brownwood in boys singles Thursday, as he came up short in the third-place match.
Brownwood tennis head coach Dalton Hutchins wanted to express his thanks to the Brownwood ISD Grounds Crew for their assistance in drying the court as quickly as possible throughout the day.
