Randall Clay Hunter, known affectionately as Randy, “Pops”, or “Ran-man”, was born on September 26, 1956, in Coleman, Texas. He went to be with his Lord, on March 26, 2025, at the age of 68.
Randy was a dedicated professional who served in the insurance industry for 45 years and worked as a claims examiner for Insurors Indemnity for the last 7 years in Waco, TX. He was well-respected by his colleagues for his professionalism and commitment to his work.
Randy was raised in the sweet community of Burkett, TX. He attended Cross Plains School District where he excelled in academics and sports. He was very proud of his achievements in track and loved the game of football. He graduated from Cross Plains High School in 1975 as salutatorian, after which he attended Cisco Jr. College before graduating from Angelo State University with a degree in Finance. Randy spent many years as a referee for high school football and basketball, and loved it so much he continued to use that gift when watching games with friends and family.
Known for his goofiness and ability to make everyone around him laugh and/or roll their eyes, Randy was happiest in a room with the ones he loved most. He loved to go on adventures, as long as he was driving and could play the music that would allow him to sing, and play air drums and guitar. He brought a smile to his wife Rosemary’s face many times as the air drums came out during Randy’s favorite worship songs, too. In addition to his love for adventure, Randy enjoyed playing golf, working diligently in his yard, so that it was the best on the block, playing and only occasionally winning in the casinos, and delighting in the pursuit of the perfect chicken fried steak.
Randy found immense joy in his family. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Sandy Bailey Low, for 26 years and they raised 2 beautiful children, Chase and Kailea. In 2007, he married Rosemary Kimbrough Hunter and they spent the next 17 years laughing, dancing, going on road-trips and spending time with their kids and grandkids.
Randy is survived by his wife Rosemary of Waco; son and daughter-in-law, Chase and Carrie Hunter and granddaughter Aubrie Hammond of Abilene, daughter and son-in-law, Kailea and Caleb Rose of Roanoke, and mother Shirley Hunter and Dick Koenig of Burkett. As well as, his bonus kids Angela and Justin Stewart of Haskell, Matthew and Nicole Brown of Leonard, and grandchildren Kylei and Chase Brooks and their daughter Georgia, Roslyn and Hunter Stewart, and Isla, Iris, and Walker Brown; additional family members include, his brother Ken Hunter and wife Terri of Burkett, niece Kristin McClure and her children Kashlyn, Cross, and Tymbre, uncle and aunt Henry and Margie Dodson, and cousin Lezlie, and uncle Hank Hunter.
He was preceded in death by his father Bill Hunter, nephew Leifton Wayne Hunter and cousin Cole Dodson. As well as, his beloved, best fur-friend Lily. Lily brought Randy so much joy and will always be remembered as his want-to-be protector and loved companion.
The family will host a visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman. A private graveside service will follow at a later time in the Burkett Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home.
