STEPHENVILLE – The Brownwood Lady Lions, in their final trip to the plate, scored all of their runs to rally past the Stephenville Honeybees for a 5-1 District 6-4A softball victory Tuesday night.
The Lady Lions (12-7, 2-1) trailed Stephenville (10-10-1, 0-3) by a 1-0 count heading to the top of the seventh inning where, with one out, Tynlea Wilson began the rally with a single up the middle. Jakayla Peek and Peyton Pena then drew walks to load the bases, still with one out.
With two outs and Carlee Burks facing a 3-2 count, the Lady Lions’ third baseman hit a bases-clearing, three-RBI double to plate Maitlyn Esquivel, running for Wilson, along with Peek and Pena to push Brownwood in front, 3-1. Chloe Walls followed with an insurance two-run home run to plate herself and Burks for the final four-run margin.
In the circle, Kaydence Allen went the distance to notch the victory, allowing one run on three hits with 10 strikeouts and three walks. Allen also surpassed 100 strikeouts on the season.
Brownwood recorded seven hits – two each by Burks and Walls and one apiece from Allen, Wilson and Jeniffer Romero.
The Lady Lions are back at home at 6:30 p.m. Friday when they host Graham (6-12, 1-2), which is coming off an 11-1 loss to Brock (18-0-2, 3-0). In other district action Tuesday, Mineral Wells (14-5, 2-1) topped Glen Rose (12-8, 1-2) by a 12-4 count.
