
Gerald was born to Civil Gerald Laws and June (Croft) Laws. He was born and raised in Coleman, Texas. After graduation, Gerald married his high school sweetheart Sharon Barnett on May 22nd, 1970. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage. Gerald joined the Army shortly after their marriage and after basic training and AIT he was stationed in Germany. Sharon was able to join him there and they were blessed with a baby girl while in Germany. His military duty was from 1971-1973. On their return to the states, they settled into life in Irving, Texas where they gave birth to a son. Gerald was an electrician by trade and worked at various places as an electrician. They returned to Coleman for a time and later moved to Freeport, Texas. They raised their two children during their years in Freeport and Gerald worked on overseas drilling rigs as an electrician. He was a huge family man and loved being with them. After their children graduated, Gerald and Sharon moved to Fort Worth before buying a home and settling in Willow Park, Texas near the shores of Lake Weatherford. Gerald really liked spending time fishing and enjoying the lake.
Gerald passed from this life surrounded by family at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved “Granny” Della Laws.
He is survived by his loving wife Sharon, daughter Kimberly Joy Laws Buchanan, and husband Toby Buchanan of Granbury Texas, son Michael Chad (Bubba) Laws and wife Angie Trimble Laws of Weatherford, Texas, two brothers Michael (Mike) Laws and Terry Laws, and four grandchildren Camon Buchanan, Sahara (Buchanan) Northcutt and husband Brandon Northcutt, Sydney Buchanan and Cheyenne Laws. He also had two great grandchildren, Paisley Ann Northcutt and Waylon Troy Creason. In addition to his family, he was greatly loved by many friends.
The family will host a visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2025, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Family and friends are invited to a funeral service celebrating his life, accompanied by military honors at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Don Harmes, pastor at Community Baptist Church, officiating. A private interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.
