Alexandro ‘Alex’ Garcia, 87

Alexandro “Alex” Garcia, age 87, of Brady, passed away Sunday morning, February 16, 2025, at his residence in Brady. Alex, or “Hondo” as he was known by family and friends was born on February 27, 1937, in Georgetown, Texas to Roberto and Magdalena Garcia. He moved from Brownfield to Brady 50 years ago. He worked for Oglebay Norton Industrial Sands as a heavy equipment operator for over 35 years. He was a big jokester, very playful, and always trying to make you smile. He always put everyone else first. He enjoyed games, puzzles, crossword puzzles, woodworking, yardwork and traveling. He was deeply religious. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brady. He liked his cars, loved his family and was a very caring man. He met Mary Solis when she was only 14 years old. They met again about 25 years ago and they have been inseparable since. Alex learned to read late in life and enjoyed reading.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Alexandro “Alex” Garcia will be held at 10:00am, Friday, February 21, 2025, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brady with Father Terry officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm with the Holy Rosary being recited at 7:00pm at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels. Friends may view and/or sign Alex’s online memorial guest book at www.leatherwoodmemorialchapels.com. The Pallbearers will be Jimmy Garcia, Edward Garcia, John Diaz, Joe Garcia, George Calderon, and Gene Rodriguez. Honorary pallbearers will be Rickey Garcia, Alex Garcia, Joe Solis, and Eddie Solis.

Alexandro “Alex” Garcia is survived by his devoted wife, of over 25 years, Mary Solis of the home; sons Robert Garcia and wife Brenda of Bryan, Texas, Rickey Garcia and wife Stella of Bryan, Texas and Alex Garcia and wife Hope of Bryan, Texas; daughters Inez Garcia of Bryan, Texas and Mary Lou Garcia of Bryan, Texas; Step-sons Joe Solis and wife Lisa of Brady, Texas and Eddie Solis and wife Sandra of Brady, Texas; step-daughters Norma Muniz of Brady, Texas, Sandra Manriquez and husband Johnny Chapoy of Abilene, Texas, Melba Solis and husband David Keller of Brady, Texas and Monica Calderon and husband George of Brady, Texas; sisters Ester Menchaca of Brownfield, Texas, Elida Lujan of Sweetwater, Texas, Delia Constancio of Blanco, Texas and Alberta “Birdie” Burnett of May, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two children, three brothers, four sisters and one great-granddaughter Ariana Garcia Lopez.
