Willborn Dale Myers, age 87, of Rochelle, Texas, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2025, at home. Willie, as he was known by most, was born on June 11, 1937, in Hall Valley, Texas to George Jefferson Myers and Ollie Coreen (Willborn) Myers. He was one of four children. He grew up in Rochelle and graduated from Rochelle High School, where he won a State Championship in the mile run in 1956. He ran track at North Texas State University and Howard Payne University. He was a member of the National Championship Cross Country Team at Howard Payne where he earned his bachelor’s degree. He married Sara Joe Murrah on June 8, 1957, in the Rochelle Baptist Church. They have been a wonderful example of what marriage should be for over 67 years. He began his teaching and coaching career in Rochelle, before moving to Matador, Robert Lee, Overton, Sanderson, Rankin and finally ending his career in Rochelle after 31 years in education. Willie was a great football coach, but track & field was his passion. His success made him a legend in west Texas and many coaches sought his advice. His secret was simple, love kids and let them know how much you care. Willie was a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association and was honored to serve on the Track Advisory Committee. After retirement, Willie served on the Rochelle School Board for eight years. He was an avid rancher. He loved the good Lord, his family, his cows, track, hunting, and fishing. He was a wonderful husband, dad, granddad and great-granddad. He was a member of the Rochelle Baptist Church where he was a deacon.
