As of 11 a.m. Tuesday, the position of head football coach for the Brownwood Lions has officially been posted as open on the Brownwood ISD website.
Brownwood ISD Athletic Director Mitch Moore on Monday’s Brownwood Lions Coach’s Show on KOXE said, “We’ll be starting the process of looking for a new head football coach. That job will be posted some time this week and we’ll move forward with that process.”
According to the posting on the BISD website, “The High School Head Football coach is responsible for the leadership of the high school and middle school football athletic program. The head football coach will collaborate with the assistant coaches to instruct and coach students to develop skills and abilities to excel in athletics. Provide each student with the opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity and ensure compliance with all federal, state, University Interscholastic League (UIL), and local requirements.”
The head football coach will report to the athletic director, according to the job description.
The deadline to apply for position of head football coach is March 3.
The contract of Sammy Burnett on Feb. 10 was not extended past the 2025-26 school year in a 4-3 vote by the Brownwood ISD Board of Trustees, and a reassignment of his duties is forthcoming.
In seven seasons at his alma mater, Burnett tallied a 51-31 record with seven playoff appearances, two district championships and a trip to the Class 4A Division I Region I championship game in 2023.
