As the Magnificent Mississippi Magnolia Blooms and Fades away, a beautiful lady has closed her life on earth and entered her eternal home. 

Polly Slay Sexton was born in Weathersby, Mississippi on March 13, 1930, and left this world on January 30, 2025, at the age of 94 at her home in Coleman, Texas. 

Polly was born to Era Elizabeth Gardner Slay and Furman Quinn Slay, Polly was named Retha Elizabeth, however her Daddy called her Polly, and Polly stuck with her all her life. 

Polly was raised in Mendenhall, Mississippi and attended Mendenhall High School. Polly married Thurman Hershel “Chick” Sexton on June 1, 1947. Polly and Chick had two children, Teresa Elizabeth Sexton Veteto and Joe Furman Sexton. 

Polly was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Great Great Grandmother. Polly loved spending time with all of them. They lovingly referred to her as ‘Mamma”. Polly spent over Twenty Years volunteering at CCMC Hospital Auxiliary. There was a time in Polly’s life where she enjoyed acting and was featured in Walker Texas Ranger and Fourth of July. Polly loved to cook, but she was famous for her Gumbo. 

Left to cherish her memory, her daughter Teresa Sexton Veteto and son Joe Furman Sexton, his wife Mary. Grandchildren Laurenda Wright, Julie and Renee Angulo. Great grandchildren, Bailey and Daniel, Jamie and Aaron, Marisa, Briley, Dezarae, Abel and Olga. A host of Great Great Grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. 

Polly was preceded in death by her parents, her grandson Wayne Gilmer, with whom she had a very special bond. Her siblings, Hudson Slay, Jane Mahaffey, Quinn Slay, Ona Belle Dillon, Carroll Slay, and Harold Slay.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation at 1:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2025, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel.
