It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Ann Graves, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished member of our Brownwood community. Mary peacefully left this world on February 1, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be held on Wednesday February 5, 2025, from 6pm-8pm at Heartland Funeral Home in Early. Funeral services for Mary will be held at 2pm Thursday February 6, 2025, at Heartland Funeral Home with graveside services to follow at Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood.

Mary was born to Orville and Winnie Ramsey on July 25, 1955, in Tarrant County. In 1972, Mary married the love of her life, Elmer Graves. Together, they built a beautiful family, welcoming three daughters: Stephanie Baker (husband Johnny), Alisa Vita, and Renea Hohertz. Mary’s love for her family knew no bounds. She was the proud grandmother of six grandchildren: Chris Graves (wife Whitney), Trisha Ingram, Stephen Ingram (wife Janet), Ashley DeLaCruz (husband Dakota), Cody Vita (wife Journey), and Brittney Blackwood (husband AJ). Each of her 15 great-grandchildren brought her immeasurable joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

A lifelong friendship with her best friend, Shirley Mcanear, whom she met at the tender age of two, enriched her life. Their bond was a testament to the power of friendship, providing support and joy throughout the years.

Mary was well-known in the community for her warm smile and generous spirit. She owned and operated Mary’s Place, a beloved café that served as a gathering spot for friends and family alike. Her culinary talents and welcoming demeanor created a space where everyone felt at home. Mary’s café was not just a place to drink tea/coffee and eat; it was a cornerstone of the community, filled with laughter, love, and fun. Friday night catfish and karaoke was a staple that many will never forget.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Winnie Ramsey, her brothers Jimmy and Benny Ramsey, and her loving husband Elmer Graves. She is survived by her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a community that will forever hold her memory dear.

Mary Ann Graves leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and community spirit. She will be profoundly missed, but her warmth will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.
