Margaret Copeland, 98

What a glorious day it was that Margaret Izora Copeland entered the gates of Heaven on January 29, 2025. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 4th at Eastlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Monday, February 3rd, at Heartland Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 pm.

Margaret was born on January 19, 1927 to Walter J Stockton and Etna Holmes Stockton. Margaret graduated from Kenedy High School and moved to San Antonio to attend nursing school at Trinity University. During her time in San Antonio, she met the love of her life Thomas “Tom” Copeland. They moved from San Antonio to Brownwood to make their home. Together they had two children, Margie Ann and Thomas “Tommy” Walter. Margaret continued her nursing career in Brown County working for the Brownwood Hospital, the Health Department and Girling Health Care. She ended her long stem of the nursing profession at CARE Inc as the Director of Nursing for 28 years.

Margaret who was known as Meme to many and took great pride in being the care giver, rock, mentor and especially spoiling her granddaughter Melissa “Mitzi” Michael Cockerham and great granddaughter Peyton Leigh Cockerham. It seemed the word “No” was never in her vocabulary. She never missed a hug and she always said “I love you, a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck”

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, brothers John Stockton, Walter “Pud” Stockton, James Stockton, and Clarence Stockton, sister in laws Hazel Stockton, Charlene Stockton, Betty Stockton, Marianne Stockton, her husband Tom, daughter Margie, son Tommy, and niece Sharon Stockton Vetters.

Those left to cherish her memory are granddaughter Mitzi Cockerham, great granddaughter Peyton Cockerham, nieces Sandra Stockton Young, Lesa Stockton Novak, Janet Stockton Brannon, Donna Stockton Brown, Margaret Elizabeth Stockton Denton and their families, nephews Wayne Stockton, Gary Stockton and their families. Those that held a dear place in heart Scott and Heather Leach, Walker and Julie Leach and Allison Leach and all the ones that knew her as Meme.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Keith Marshall Activity Center at Salt Creek Baptist Church.
