The City of Brownwood shared the following information on Facebook Thursday:
On November 12, 2024, the Brownwood Fire Department was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of West Commerce and Belle Plain. Upon arrival, one vehicle was on its roof with a trapped occupant. Rescue 9 began extrication, later joined by Engine 9 to assist. With guidance from Assistant Chief Horton and Captain Guthery, they successfully freed the patient, who was not breathing. After CPR, the patient regained a pulse and began breathing on his own. While en route to the hospital, the patient’s heart stopped but was successfully shocked back into rhythm. The patient was transported to Hendricks Brownwood, then flown to Hendricks North in Abilene.
A huge thank you to Lifeguard Ambulance, Hendrick Medical Center Brownwood, and the Brownwood Police Department for their quick and coordinated efforts in saving this life. Their dedication and teamwork were crucial during this critical situation.
Thanks to the efforts of the fire department, the patient was discharged from the hospital and has recovered. The following firefighters have been honored for their role in saving the patient’s life: Acting Lieutenant Bradley Gilmore, Acting Driver Dave Thomas, Driver Trent Thompson, Firefighter Nick Alcorta and Firefighter Korben Cardenas.
