Brownwood Fire Department releases details on weekend grass, RV fires

The Brownwood Fire Department on Tuesday released details regarding weekend grass fires and RV fires:

At approximately 2:06 pm Saturday, Jan. 18, the Brownwood Fire Department responded to a grass fire at 2258 FM 1176. Firefighters arrived on the scene and observed a fast-moving grass fire threatening a home. Exposure protection was immediately provided to the structure, and it received no fire damage. One unused barn was destroyed by the fire. There was a second fire found in the 3200 block of FM 1176 which was quickly extinguished. The cause of these fires remains under investigation.

At 3:02 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, the Brownwood Fire Department was dispatched to a reported Recreational Vehicle fire at 3902 S. US 377. Firefighters arrived on the scene within minutes and observed significant smoke and flames coming from two RV’s with fire extending to another. Using preconnected hose lines the fire was brought under control quickly. There was one injury reported to the occupant from the RV where the fire originated. That person was transported to Hendrix Medical Center in Brownwood with non-life-threatening injuries. The occupants of the two other RV’s were safely evacuated prior to the fire departments arrival. The investigation revealed that the cause of the fire was a grease fire while cooking and was accidental in nature. All three RV’s suffered significant damage. Red Cross was called to assist the occupants with housing needs.
