GSM’s Larry and Ruth Schwartz Memorial Pig Project again taking place during Youth Fair

The start of the 73rd Annual Brown County Youth Fair also marks the return of Good Samaritan Ministries’ Pig Project.

Larry Schwartz, who passed away in 2019, initially started the Pig Project associated with the Brown County Youth Fair along with Kirby Cabler. Ruth Schwartz, Larry’s wife, passed away in February 2021 and thus Good Samaritan Ministries officially renamed the program the Larry and Ruth Schwartz Memorial Pig Project.

The children of Larry and Ruth Schwartz are carrying on the family’s legacy.

Based off donations, GSM will purchase pigs from students entered in the Swine Show and the ground pork will be delivered to the freezers of Good Samaritan Ministries to be distributed through the Food Pantry. GSM provides a quality source of protein to 600-plus families served in the area.

You can support this program by selling GSM your show pig after the Youth Fair or you can go to goodsambwd.org and donate online to help cover processing costs. Contact 325-643-2273 for more info on selling your animal. You can also talk with Shannon Adams at the Brown County Youth Fair.
