Emily Attaway named new CFO and Vice President at Howard Payne University

Howard Payne University recently named Emily Attaway, certified public accountant, as chief financial officer and vice president for financial affairs. In her new role, Attaway will oversee the business office, financial affairs, financial aid, human resources, university events and facilities.

“I have seen firsthand the excellent leadership that Emily provides on our campus,” said Dr. Cory Hines, university president. “She has demonstrated in a multitude of ways that she is a very capable leader who will serve Howard Payne University well into the future. Her vision for HPU, alongside her passion for excellence, will be a key part in helping us become the institution the Lord dreams we will become.”

Attaway graduated from Howard Payne University with a Bachelor of Business Administration as an accounting major with summa cum laude honors. She went on to earn her Master of Science in Accounting and Information Management from the University of Texas at Dallas. She is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Business Administration program at Indiana Wesleyan University.

“I’m honored and thankful for the opportunity to continue to serve at my alma mater, a place that has shaped my life both as a student and an employee,” said Attaway. “Howard Payne University holds many special memories, and I’m excited to help build a future where our graduates are equipped to grow the Kingdom and make an eternal impact. I look forward to collaborating with our dedicated faculty, staff and leadership as we steward the university’s resources to advance its Christ-centered mission and prepare students to answer God’s call on their lives.”

Attaway is a member of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. While serving at Howard Payne, she has been director of external reporting and special projects, and assistant vice president for finance and administration. She was a member of the Strategic Planning Committee for 2023-2028 and served as the Co-Chair of the Strategic Plan Implementation Committee. Attaway also serves as a volunteer with Hope Home Ministries and is an active member of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church. Her husband, Daniel, is a 2008 graduate of HPU and the couple have four children.
