Arrest made following armed robbery of Food Plaza on 4th Street

The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Sunday morning:

On Sunday, December 22, 2024, at approximately 1:20 a.m., Brownwood 911 received a call of a reported Robbery at the Food Plaza, 2800 4th St.  The caller reported that a male subject, wearing dark clothing and a mask walked in with a pistol and displayed a written note, demanding money.  After receiving the money from the register, the male fled the location on foot.  Officers searched the area to no avail. 

The Criminal Investigations Division of the Brownwood Police Department was contacted and began an investigation.  During the investigation, physical evidence was located which provided identifying information of a suspect vehicle.  This vehicle was known by the Department as belonging to a Brownwood resident; 37-year-old David Wayne Hersha.

An arrest warrant was sought for Hersha and an ‘attempt to locate’ was broadcast to law enforcement agencies in our local area.  At approximately 4:00 a.m., the vehicle was located, parked at a motel in the 300 block of Early Blvd. 

Officers with the Brownwood and Early Police Department’s contacted located Hersha inside a motel room.  Physical evidence implicating Hersha in the crime was found inside the room and statements made by Hersha implicated him in the robbery.

Hersha was arrested for the warrant for Aggravated Robbery and transported to the Brown County Jail where he is being held on a $150,000 bond.
