The demolition of a building adjacent to the Commerce Square shopping center is underway as the western most structure associated with the facility is being torn down.

The long-vacated structure, located at 537 West Commerce, was most recently Commerce Square Optical, but originally opened as Cinema Twin I & II on March 30, 1972. Cinemas I and II had identical 350-seat auditoriums when they opened, according to cinematreasures.org.

According to an email from Ray Tipton, Brownwood Municipal Development District Executive Director, “A private developer is working on a project at that location. I expect more info to be released next month.”

More information on the site will be provided at BrownwoodNews.com as it becomes available.
