According to multiple reports, UNLV has hired former Florida and Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen as their new head coach in a five-year deal. Â Mullen replaces Barry Odom, who spent the past two seasons with the Rebels before taking the head coach position at Purdue over the weekend. Mullen, 52, has been working as a college football analyst and color commentator for ESPN over the past three seasons.
During his time as head coach with Mississippi State (2009-17) and the Gators (2018-21), Mullen posted a 103-61 record. He was 29-9 during his first three seasons with Florida before being fired with a game remaining in the 2021 season as Florida went 5-6.
UNLV has posted consecutive winning seasons for the first time since 1983-1984, winning 19 games in Odom’s two seasons after winning just 20 games total from 2017 through 2022. The Rebels went 10-3 in 2024 under Odom before he left for Purdue.
