Peggy Eugenia (Cope) Stephenson, 88 of Brownwood, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2024. She was born on February 24, 1936 in Norton, Texas. Peggy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family will host a visitation from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, December 6th at Heartland Funeral Home in Early. Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, December 7th at Coggin Avenue Baptist Church in Brownwood, with interment to follow at Greenleaf Cemetery.
Peggy attended Norton Elementary through her High School years. This is where she met the love of her life, Dean Stephenson. She was offered a full academic scholarship to Howard Payne University but instead, married the love of her life, Dean Stephenson and would live her life as a happy and content homemaker. She was married to her beloved husband, Dean for 70 plus years. Their love was a shining example to all who knew them.
Peggy was known for her sweet and kind nature. Her love for Jesus was evident in every aspect of her life, and she lived each day with a deep faith and love for others.
As a mother, Peggy cherished her four children with all her heart. Terry Stephenson and wife Pam, Susan Goldsmith and husband John, Sandy Joyner, Laura Howard and husband Steve. She found great joy in teaching her grandchildren and great grandchildren how to make crafts, cook, and live a Godly life. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren hold cherished memories of their time spent with their Grammy, whether it was making crafts, talking to her on the phone or having her cheer them on at their games.
In her free time, Peggy had a special fondness for flowers and took great pleasure in growing and tending to them. Peggy and Dean attended Coggin Avenue Baptist Church, as faith was such an integral part of her life. Her church community provided her with support, fellowship and spiritual nourishment.
Peggy is survived by her loving husband, Dean; her four children and their spouses; ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, George W. Cope and mother, Della Cope; her brothers, Bill Cope and Wendell Cope.
Peggy Stephenson leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and faith. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. The memories and lessons she shared will forever be treasured by her family and friends.
