EASTLAND – The Brownwood Lady Lions tipped off their 16th season under the direction of head coach Heather Hohertz with a 58-53 road victory over the Eastland Lady Mavs Tuesday night.

Brownwood is coming off a 20-13 playoff campaign with eight members of last year’s roster back, along with four new additions.

The Lady Lions were tied at 16 with Eastland after one quarter. Brownwood surged in front, 31-25 at halftime, but the Lady Mavs drew even at 42 after three periods. The Lady Lions then owned a 16-11 scoring advantage over the final eight minutes.

“I thought we played really hard,” Hohertz said. “It was a good team win good start to the season. I thought we fought back when we were down. We didn’t let our mistakes hurt us. We turned the ball over too much in the first half we got our feet under us and only had four in the second half.”

Brownwood was led by Hannah Deen and Trinity Roberts with 16 points apiece, followed by 12 from Icess Hall, eight from Jade Morin, and two points each from Nylah Hall, Kate Tindol and Lanie Johnson.

The Lady Lions (1-0) are back in action at 3:30 p.m. Saturday as they visit Merkel.
