Melvin Glenn Schneider was reunited with his wife on September 27th, 2024 after a long illness.  He was a resident of Round Rock, TX since 2013.  He will be greatly missed. A graveside service for Melvin will be held at 10:00AM on Monday, October 7, at Eastlawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home in Early.

He was born July 1, 1941 at Physicians and Surgeons Hospital, San Antonio to Emil Otto and Emma Beckmann Schneider. He graduated from Douglas McArthur High School in San Antonio in 1959.  He then went on to attend San Antonio College and Graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio in 1963 with a Bachelor of Arts in Interdepartmental Social Sciences.

Melvin entered the U.S. Army on August 25, 1963 and served for 3 years. The majority of his time was served at Fort Polk, in Louisiana, investigating military personnel for security clearances.

After receiving an honorable discharge from the Army in 1966, he worked as security personnel for NASA. He was present in the Mission Control Center during the first man on the moon mission July 20, 1969 and was there on April 11, 1970, when the oxygen tank exploded in the service module of Apollo 13.


While working for NASA, Melvin would meet his future wife, Lois Marlene Lamb. They were married on May 2, 1970.  They would welcome three children, Mark b. 1972, Micheal b. 1976, and Melissa b. 1978. Melvin loved his children and was proud of their accomplishments. During this time, he and Marlene became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Beginning in October 1970, he worked for US Customs Service as a Customs Inspector at Eagle Pass, Texas. In 1978 he became Port Director at Lubbock, and in 1981 he became Port Director at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  While there, he was one of the first responders to the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building explosion in
downtown Oklahoma City.  Retired from US Customs Service in March 2006.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents Emil O. and Emma Schneider, wife Marlene (2005), and his maternal aunt, Clara Beckman (2002). He is survived by his children, Mark and wife Angela Schneider of Round Rock, Michael and wife Chelle Schneider of Norman, Oklahoma, Melissa Schneider of Los Alamos, New Mexico; grandchildren, Sophia Schneider, Benjamin Schneider, Inga Cammile Schneider; and his sister Arlene Bayless of League City, Texas.
