Charlene Goodman, 61, passed away Monday, September 9, 2024. She was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

A Graveside Service for Charlene will be held at 11:00am Saturday September 14, 2024, at Glen Cove Cemetery in Coleman with Mickey Wayne Isbell officiating. The family will be accepting visitors on Friday September 13, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.

Charlene was born on June 5, 1963, in Odessa Texas to Charlotte Hayes Evans. Charlene attended school in Early and was a lifelong resident of Brown County.

Charlene was well known for her cooking. She loved to cook for any and everyone. She spent many years of her life as a cook, the majority of those years being spent at Brownwood and Mary’s Cafe. Charlene enjoyed gardening and watering her flowers, loved to read a good book, or watch a movie, take an afternoon drive, or travel for a weekend getaway to San Antonio, her favorite place with her loving husband. Charlene always loved being with her family, her grandchildren and pets brought her so much joy.

Charlene is survived by husband Anthony (Tony) Goodman of Brownwood, son Jerry Petross and wife Shannon of Brookesmith, daughter Sarah Goodman of Gatesville, and Nathan Goodman and wife Lynzie of Brownwood. Siblings Lang Slayton, Lantz Slayton, Stacci Slayton Hamilton, and Guy Slayton. Uncle Steve Hayes, Aunt Pat Hayes Huffman. Grandchildren Aleric, Shayla, Carmen, Jerry, Autumn, Jacob, Chaslyn, Creed, Gage, Jonathan, Julian, Aubree, and Paizlee. 7 great grandchildren, and eagerly waiting for another to be born any day. Adopted children Felicia Davis and Joey Phillips. Best friend Tina, and lifelong friend Rick. Numerous nieces and nephews. 

She is preceded in death by beloved son James (Jimmy) Slayton, father G.W. Slayton, sister Lesley Slayton Crabb, Grandparents Leo and Berniece Sundeen Hayes and GJ and Gladys Keeney Slayton.
