At Monday night’s meeting of the Brownwood ISD Board of Trustees, Eric Evans tendered his resignation after 17 years of service, which the board accepted.
Evans’ term representing Place 4 was set to expire after the Nov. 5 election. Tim Wilson was the only candidate to file for the position, so he will be appointed to fill Evans’ current term and will be sworn in after Nov. 5 as the new Place 4 representative.
“I have considered it an honor and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve our kids,” Evans said. “After 17 years, I think it’s time for me to move on and give some fresh faces an opportunity to be a part of the board. This is a great team up here, they have a great administration and I couldn’t be more pleased with the shape the school district is in.
“It’s been a real privilege to help motivate, to help navigate some real struggles the school district has had to go through, not because of anything of their own making. I’m very proud of what this school district has done and what it’s accomplished in that time.”
Also Monday, the Nov. 5 school board election was canceled and as no one filed to run against incumbents Diane Thompson in Place 2 and Codie Smith in Place 5.
Earlier in the evening, 13 Brownwood ISD teachers were acknowledged for earning “recognized” status in terms of Teacher Incentive Allotment, which is designed to reward and support teachers who have demonstrated exceptional teaching practices contributing significantly to students’ success in the district’s overall performance.
The payment received in February 2024 and August 2024 was based on 2022-23 school data, and $84,000 was distributed to the 13 teachers.
Those honored were Jay Adams, Laura Alexander, Angela Bishop, Elizabeth Clevenger, Jennifer Mares, Kristen Herring, Maura Lilliebridge, Stephanie Martin, Kasi Rice, Rachel Smiley, Robin Smith, Jillian Tippit, and Amber Wilson.
