Lady Lions capture Brownwood Invitational championship, Lions place 9th

The Brownwood Lady Lions cruised to a team championship at the Brownwood Invitational Wednesday morning at Gordon Wood Stadium, amassing 76 points compared to the 128 of runner-up San Angelo Central.

The 52-point victory for the Lady Lions, who placed first out of 33 teams, was sparked by the runner-up effort of 12:14.86 from Sidney Windham, along with Kate Tindol (13th, 12:57.42), Kylea Karnes (15th, 13:02.03), Braycee Lee (19th, 13:18.88), Rebekah Delgado (27th, 13:28.45), Talia Craff (34th, 13:36.64), Haylee Adkins (39th, 13:48.68), and Khloe Galvan (49th, 13:57.51).

Other teams of local interest included Goldthwaite in sixth place followed by Comanche in 12th, Coleman in 13th, San Saba in 18th, Bangs in 24th, Early in 26th, Brookesmith in 30th, Zephyr in 32nd, and Blanket in 33rd place.

Goldthwaite’s sixth-place performance was spearheaded by Emily Bartek (11th, 12:52.25), Rylie Hillis (16th, 13:15.06), Madison Wood (20th, 13:20.09), Addisyn Howard (57th, 14:06.33), Jacey Jernigan (93rd, 14:47.29), and Kenley Howard (134th, 15:34.71).

In varsity boys action, the Lions finished ninth out of 26 teams, while Class A No. 4 Zephyr produced a seventh-place performance. Other local teams in the mix included Goldthwaite in 19th place, Coleman in 22nd, Bangs in 23rd and San Saba in 25th place.

Competing for the Lions were Bennett Windham (27th, 18:17.41), Noah Lambert (45th, 18:57.22), Aidan Pena (53rd, 19:15.92), Stephen Rodriguez (69th, 19:34.3), Ross Strasner (75th, 19:38.72), Hayden Mair (111th, 20:48.44), Easton Judkins (121st, 21:40.42), Noah Pyle (140th, 21:56.92), and Jose Rodriguez (151st, 22:23.27).

Leading the charge for the Bulldogs were Eli Williams (9th, 17:14.32), Aaron Fagan (28th, 18:18.13), Spencer Marwitz (43rd, 18:47.06), Reese Hamm (52nd, 19:14.88), and Cash Whisenhunt (109th, 20:46.84).

The JV Lady Lions also placed first of 15 teams in their draw, garnering 36 points.

Lyndi Biasiolli won the race in a time of 14:10.84 trailed by Joclyn Salazar (3rd, 14:32.03), Montanna Ramsey (10th, 15:04.95), Alena Bernal (12th, 15:21.99), Kiara Delce (17th, 15:39.93), Karissa Raines (37th, 16:31.03), Izzie Mendez (55th, 17:04.66), Adamaris Moreno (85th, 17:42.67), Natalie Dillard (86th, 17:43.15), and Jazzmyn Sanchez (145th, 22:09.14).

The JV Lions finished second out of 11 squads in the final team standings with 81 points, trailing only San Angelo Central with 17.

Running for Brownwood were Jayden Sanchez (5th, 19:35.32), Valente Cardenas (18th, 21:02.15), Gio Diaz (20th, 21:21.35), Kayden Hernandez (24th, 21:34.75), Alejandro Gomez (25th, 21:39.64), Isaac Morales (29th, 22:11.92), Arturo Vaquera (31st, 22:20.55), Alex Vaquera (39th, 22:41.31), Hayden Padgett (42nd, 22:48.42), Daniel Cardenas (50th, 23:06.3), Carter Massey (52nd, 23:19.77), Brayden Musick (62nd, 23:57.2), Bryce Booth (80th, 26:00.42), Tru Pesina (81st, 26:12.13), and EJ Stanfield (87th, 26:47.94).

The Lions and Lady Lions will be back in action Sept. 4 at Hico.
