Lucy Margaret Casey Baucom, 87

Lucy Margaret Casey Baucom, 87, of Odessa, Texas, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at The Plaza at Richardson in Richardson, Texas.

Born on August 20, 1936, in Santa Anna Hospital to Mary Frances and Robert Casey of Novice, Texas, Lucy Margaret spent her early years in Novice. She attended school in both Novice and Coleman, graduating from Novice High School in 1954. After high school, Lucy attended Abilene Christian College and Texas Tech University. On April 6, 1956, she married the love of her life, George Miles Baucom. Following their marriage, she completed her education at Howard Payne College, where she earned degrees in English and Spanish in 1961.

Lucy was a dedicated educator, teaching in both Texas and California. As a devoted wife and mother, she followed George’s work across several states, relishing the many adventures along the way. Known for her fun-loving spirit, Lucy never met a stranger and formed lifelong friendships with ease. Her family was central to her life, and she was affectionately known as Mom, Grandmom, and Sissy.

One of Lucy’s greatest passions was playing the piano, a talent she began developing at the age of 9. She also loved art, singing, gardening, and playing the guitar.

Lucy Margaret is survived by her husband of 68 years, George Baucom; her children Lezlie Berdan (Sid Yates), Steve Baucom (Vedette Vasquez), and Robert Baucom; her brother Robert David Casey and sister Patricia Clark (Joe Clark); and her beloved six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Frances (1978) and Robert Casey (1974), and her younger sister, Frances Carol Casey (1992).

Pallbearers will be Casey Malone, Trey Malone, Aiden Martin, Brandon Baucom, Braden Darrow, Colby Darrow, Derrick Ratcliff, and Blake Mitchell.

Honorary pallbearers are Jared Mayne, Jeremy Berdan, Blake Baucom and Austin Martin.

Services will be held at the Novice Church of Christ in Novice, Texas, on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 11 AM, with visitation beginning at 10 AM. Burial will follow at Rough Creek Cemetery in Novice, Texas.
